It bridges the gap in existing industry initiatives, which are primarily focused on reporting. It provides Suppliers with:
The REM is designed as a user-friendly, collaborative tool. It provides insightful analyses on GHG emissions that enable Suppliers to see where changes are needed and how they can get started.
The REM analyses a Supplier's environmental performance to identify improvement opportunities. This helps with implementing resource efficiency measures in production facilities. Suppliers can find ways to reduce energy, water and chemicals usage, guidance is provided on how to implement reduction measures.
Suppliers can record their resource consumption. The REM looks at electrical and thermal energy (Suppliers' scope 1 and 2) and other categories such as purchased goods and services, waste, or transportation (Suppliers' scope 3). Consumption data is entered into the REM, which automatically calculates GHG emissions by combining consumption data and the emission factor.
Clear recommendations and explanations show how changes can be implemented at facility level. Suppliers also get an average indication of the costs and effort involved, as well as pay-back timelines.
Alongside reducing negative environmental impacts, the Resource Efficiency Module has many other benefits for Suppliers and Brands.
So for REM we would explain the process as of the moment a Supplier is in the Supplier Platofrm.
In the Supplier Platform, click on the Resource Efficiency Module. From there, complete the free evaluation, a sneak peak of the entire (paid) ResourceEfficiency Module.
After submitting the free evaluation and fulfilling the payment for the REM, access is granted to the full evaluation and the GHG calculator. Your resource efficiency journey now begins.
When the full evaluation is completed, see the recommendation section for an overview of improvements that can be implemented at your facility. These recommendations include information on the steps to take, investment costs, implementation effort, and payback period. In addition, the GHG calculator provides a dashboard to record resource consumption. From there, your scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions can be calculated.
Having completed and submitted the consumption information, you can share your GHG emissions data with Brands.
Alongside reducing negative environmental impacts, the Resource Efficiency Module has many other benefits for Suppliers and Brands. Learn more about the benefits here.
Suppliers can conduct an evaluation, understand the results, get recommendations, and share GHG emissions data with their Brand customers.
The following screenshots provide an idea of how the platform looks and illustrate its user-friendly nature.
Good resource efficiency measures generate substantial cost savings
Smart recommendations and guidance help to implement resource efficiency measures in facilities
Resource usage is recorded at facility level, which helps to determine your environmental footprint
Support is given to set GHG (science-based) reduction targets and monitor progress
GHG emissions data can be reported to relevant stakeholders
GHG emissions data can be used for external reporting, e.g. Higg FEM
Support is provided to meet Brand requirements, which are crucial as sustainability is of growing importance to them
Brands can support Suppliers with implementing resource efficiency measures by offering them the REM
The REM can be used as part of a Brand’s scope 3 inventory. This reduces the use of single documents (e.g. excel data collection sheets).
Brands are supported (indirectly) in their sustainability journey.
The REM can be used to set GHG reduction targets and to monitor progress
